Director, Land and Site Development

ELS is searching for a Director, Land and Site Development to work from our Corporate office in Chicago. The Director will provide leadership for and execution of all land and site development projects in order to drive revenue. This is a key role for the future growth of ELS and the overall investment strategy. The right candidate is a dynamic leader with excellent project management skills and the ability to manage and complete multiple concurrent tasks. Must have the ability to be successful in a highly matrixed organization and to analyze operations and drive change to improve property performance. 

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Strategic new site development planning
  • Establish and manage site development budgets and schedules
  • Deliver new site development goals in support of corporate objectives
  • Manage and enhance processes for administration of site development approvals, tracking, reporting and market analysis
  • Establish protocols for new site targets and work with operations to drive strategy
  • Work with legal teams on transactions and contracts to limit risk/exposure
  • Provide service support to Operations for site development which results in revenue growth
  • Create and present compelling business cases to senior management for approval
  • Manage and source national vendor relationships
  • Train and educate Asset Management and Operations on development best practices
  • Act as a liaison between contractors, Ops and Asset Management to ensure construction progress and architectural revisions are properly communicated
  • Understand US Manufactured Housing trends & competitors and how they relate to overall development strategy
  • Participate in acquisition due diligence

Requirements Include:

  • 10-15+ years of retails, commercial, residential or manufactured housing real estate development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Real estate professional certification a plus (CPM, CCIM, MRE).
  • Proven past development success
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Financial acumen with the ability to analyze data 
  • Knowledge and experience in land development
  • Team leadership skills
  • Ability to travel 50% or more
  • Understanding of site plans and construction documents
  • Knowledge of real estate management software and database tools
